The Diwali festival at White Rock Beach delighted many visitors. Being a participant in the Artist Walk at the west beach promenade selling White Rock Beach postcards, greeting cards, magnets and photos, I have a different view of things. On Saturday morning I was setting up at 6:30 am for the day and left about 5 pm and returned for the fireworks. The festival really brought the crowds out to the waterfront. Some people did not know what festival was going on. I was happy to explain what Diwali is about. The parking lots were filled and a trolley bus was bringing more people to the west beach. With Saturday being a beautiful day for the festival and the colourful dress of the dancers, performers and some visitors, it was truly a Kodak moment – lots of brilliant colours.

Even some of the vendor vehicles like the curry truck, displays, and the life-size elephant figures were worth snapping a few photos.

There was lots of FREE food being given away for people to sample. I saw many people who received some FREE samples become instant customers and possible visitors to Indian restaurants in the future.

I was able to sample some food I have never seen or tasted and will not be afraid to seek some restaurants that were set up at the beach. I met various visitors to White Rock Beach from Vancouver, Abbotsford, Langley and various other tourists from around the world who enjoyed the festival and will go home to tell their friends about the good time they had at White Rock Beach, BC.

On Saturday evening I staked out a spot on the rocks on the east beach to capture the fireworks display. The fireworks were top notch and maybe worthy of another postcard. On Sunday morning, I was back early at the west beach to set up my artist tent display and was the first artist on site. All the tents that were set up along side of me the day before were gone. Talking to some of the landscaping cleanup crew most people do not see, they commented the waterfront was the cleanest they ever saw after a major event. The Diwali organizers must have done their cleanup in the dark with flashlights. Hats off to the Diwali festival people for their hard work in keeping White Rock Beach beautiful and an exciting place to visit.

Sunday was another beautiful day at the beach and many people were out enjoying the waterfront. I talked to many people who enjoyed the Diwali festival and commented it was GREAT to have received some FREE FOOD and that other festivals should follow suit. With BC also known as Bring Cash, and White Rock parking $3 per hour, it was nice to get something for FREE a sentiment shared by many. I also give away a FREE postcard at my tent when I am set up. Many other people also suggest it should have been a weekend event, instead of only one day.

FRE-postcard

Festivals like this, also bring customers into the many stores located on the waterfront. Hats off to the organizers, participants and visitors to the White Rock Beach Diwali Festival. The FREE food at the Diwali Festival and even my FREE postcards will translate into future sales for many businesses. Looking forward to the 2016 Diwali festival!
