Wow !  Time is just flying by.  In just over 2 weeks the Spirit of the Sea Festival will be underway at the beach in White Rock.  We have some changes to pass on and we are still interested in more volunteers.

This year we are introducing Paddleboard races and a later Saturday parade to allow more street activities to happen before the parade.

The weekend is planned as follows.

On Friday Aug 3, we will be setting up stages, tents, organizing tables, chairs and barricades, having toilets and washing stations delivered.   Friday evening signage for Saturday starts to go up.

On Saturday, marketplace, and volunteer tent will open about 7 am.  (Shuttles and parking information will come later).  We will also need volunteers to set-up the children’s area starting at 7 am and man a few barricades.   At 9 am we need traffic volunteers and helpers for the Pirate Parade including someone to wear the mascot.  The Pirates in the Park will open at 11 am – 4 pm.  We will also need at least 2 people per stage from 10 am to 8 pm.   BBQ will run from noon to 6 pm.  At about 4 pm we will need help with the set-up of the parade.  Then from 6 pm until 11 pm we will need help at the barricades for the parade.   We have to man 85 barricades,  with volunteers 18+ being in charge of each barricade.   Finally the night crew will come behind the parade taking away the barricades and signage and put up any Sunday signage.

Sunday will once again start at 7 am with Volunteer tent and Marketplace.  The Pirates in the Park will start at noon – 4 pm.  Stages will run from 10 – 8 pm.  BBQ will run from noon to 6 pm.  The Waiter’s Race will be from 2:30- 4:30.  Paddleboard demos and races will continue.  Yoga will be organized on the pier.  The night crew and take down crew will work from 7 pm onward.

Monday should be very quiet if the night crew has successfully completed their work.  Final sweeps will be done for signage, stages will be removed, all litter taken away.

At the moment we have 140 volunteers in total covering Sat & Sun activities.  We still need help.  There are big gaps to fill particularly with Night crew, evening parade, and shuttle drivers( Class 4 or 1).

****Volunteer Orientation will be from 1-3 pm on Sunday July 29 in Semiahmoo Mall on 152 St & 17 Ave (behind White Spot) in the former Shoe Warehouse site.  It is near the food court and food court doors.  It is very important that you attend to find out what you are doing, where you are going, what is happening and what is expected from you. ****

Please come early to find our booth at Semiahmoo Mall if you need to talk to me or to check out your application and work times.  We will be there most of the day.   It is so much easier for us if you register on line and fill in the form totally so we can assign you your jobs and be ready for your questions.    At the end of the festival, Volunteer Certificates will be available.  Questions?
