Jimi Hendrix Tribute 06 July 2013 at Sawbucks Neighborhood Pub

hendrix-01 Lucky & Sugar-toes met local White Rock Beach resident Johnny Hendrix, son the son of famous singer-guitarist Jimi Hendrix. We gave Johnny one of our COOL magnets as he said he likes squirrels. We even gave him an interesting phrase for a song. If it becomes a hit, he can get more publicity saying it came to him from a Lottery Squirrel. WINK WINK

Squirrel Memory test? MUST SEE!!!!!

This entry for NewScientist proves that squirrels don’t smell nuts. A squirrel’s memory is phenomenal. If you try this experiment at home it is important to distinguish between different squirrels. In this experiment there were three of them. All three squirrels exhibited the same memory traits: They always returned to the same position. Collectively they made over 300 separate trips and seemed to work as a team to systematically clear the hoard of nuts. Here is a link to NewScientist’s Channel on Youtube, I highly recommend their channel:
http://uk.youtube.com/profile?user=ne…I would love to be able to delve deeper into animal science at dawn/dusk but my camcorder is limited to bright sunny days, I don’t expect to win the competition so I’ll keep saving for a better quality video camera.

Burrying nuts, never more than one or two per cache, leaves the squirrel with food stashed in thousands of different sites. The squirrel therefore ensures it will not loose everything in a single theft, but it must pay the price by having to remember where all those nuts were cached.

MULTIPLE TRAVEL WARNINGS for #WhiteRock Beach, British Columbia (White Rock Beach Syndrome)

THESE MULTIPLE TRAVEL WARNINGS ARE IN EFFECT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

The staff at WhiteRockBeach.ca has been asked to warn others about the effects of visiting White Rock Beach (AKA White Rock Beach Syndrome), in Beautiful British Columbia.

It has been reported that Ric Wallace of Virtual Edge Communications visited White Rock Beach from Ontario and never left. He was forced to change his driver license, car license, health coverage, re-register his business and pay about 60 cents a pound to move his belongings from Ontario to White Rock Beach. The friendly people at White Rock City Hall are understanding and well trained to help people who develop White Rock Beach Syndrome, and will provide lots of useful information to help you adjust to your new home. They will even give you a map to find your way home.

If you see a rabbit eating a carrot in the above photo you are
NOT affected by White Rock Beach Syndrome.

If you see 2 squirrels wearing glasses holding an umbrella – you are affected by White Rock Beach Syndrome and are destined to visit or move to White Rock Beach, in Beautiful British Columbia.

People suffering from this condition often stop by Anie’s Beach Mart, located in the West Beach area of White Rock Beach, for a fresh coffee and to discuss how they are coping with White Rock Beach Syndrome. Sometimes it is great to know you are not alone, and the research that is being done. Many people affected participate in The Lucky White Rock ~ Lottery Luck Club Exercise Program.

If you live in a big city like London, Ontario with sometimes really poor air quality it is an easy choice to trade it for the fresh air coming off the Pacific Ocean.

Other residents of White Roch Beach who were formerly from all over Canada have had the same symptoms, not wanting to leave, and took up residence here. There have even reports of people calling in sick while enjoying an extra day at White Rock Beach. WARNING: there is a web cam showing the beach, so if you are calling in sick, you are advised to wear some sunglasses so your boss will not see you online. We are not responsible if your boss does the same thing.

WARNING: Other notable effects on people is to get up early to see the sun rise over Mount Baker in Washington State. This may cause some loss of sleep and the need for an afternoon nap. Watching the beautiful sunsets will provide some natural vitamin D, and you may have to purchase some really cool sunglasses.

White Rock Beach is the waterfront area of the City of White Rock in the southwest corner of the lower mainland of British Columbia, bordering Washington State. The White Rock Beach district runs along Marine Drive and overlooks the warm, shallow waters of Semiahmoo Bay. The borders of this area are defined somewhat informally by approximately 8 km of sandy beach, with a 2.5 km waterfront promenade. The actual city of White Rock is 45 minutes from Vancouver, BC and minutes from the Canada/USA border. The city dates back to the turn of the 20th century (1900) and has a population of 18,250.

WARNING: The Lucky White Rock ~ Lottery Luck Club Exercise Program may cause some weight loss and elevated heart rate if the Lucky White Rock brings you LUCK on the lottery.

When we arrived in White Rock we were over 115 pounds heavier (Lucky lost 68 pounds and Sugar-toes was down 47 pounds in about 8 months). That is almost like losing a whole person. Below are some links how we did it.

The moderate climate makes it an ideal vacation and retirement spot, with average summer temperatures of 23ºC and average winter temperatures of 6ºC. First-time visitors to White Rock Beach are often shocked to see palm trees growing in front of businesses and private residences. The people in White Rock Beach live in an alternate world that defies the reality of living in a northern climate.
The area is shared by walkers and joggers of all ages, as well as various wildlife creatures, from gulls and other water birds to rabbits, marmots, seals, and bald eagles.

The alternating tides, sunrises, and sunsets provide photographers and artists with fresh daily imagery. WARNING: You may need to buy more memory storage devices or a newer computer to store all the cool photos and video you take in the White Rock Beach area.

White Rock Beach enjoys far more days of sunshine than the rest of the lower BC mainland. White Rock Beach is also known as “the hole in the sky” by pilots flying overhead who’ve remarked that while often the rest of the lower mainland is under cloud cover, the sky over White Rock is clear, sunny, and cloud free.

WARNING: Family or friends will be jealous of the sunshine you enjoy, so sending them photos by email showing the beautiful weather may cause hard feelings: Do this at your own risk (Tip: save some rainy day photos of the area to email when the sun is shining at White Rock Beach).

With the businesses and houses in the area built into the hillside overlooking the water, the White Rock Beach area is often referred to as the Riviera of the west coast (of Canada).

The beautiful sunrises overlooking Mount Baker in Washington State and sunsets overlooking the White Rock pier add to the diversity in imagery. As one long-time permanent resident remarked, “Each sunrise and sunset is different, and I never get tired of looking at them.” WARNING: Do not tell Americans the best view of their Mount Baker is at White Rock Beach, BC in Canada — they are still upset about the hockey loss to Canada at the Salt Lake City, Olympics.

The famous White Rock pier is 1,500 feet long and a favorite tourist spot that often forms the backdrop for wedding photos. Local residents love to stroll along the promenade and out to the end of the pier. Walkers and joggers love to walk right to the end and slap the top railing before heading back to shore — all part of their daily exercise program. The trains that pass through the White Rock Beach area on the railroad tracks running along the promenade by the beach add a distinctive charm to the district.

The annual New Year’s Day polar bear swim helps add to the year-round excitement of being in White Rock Beach. WARNING: The New Year’s Day polar bear swim is in COLDDDDDDDDDDDDD water.

The White Rock Museum & Archives, located on Marine Drive just west of the pier, was once the old train station. It is a source of history for the White Rock Beach area. The museum’s mandate is the preservation of local history based on the following four themes: Settlement History, Railway History, First Nations History, and Natural History. WARNING: You may lose some time visiting the White Rock Museum & Archives.

WARNING: Bird jackings are on the rise.

White Rock Beach visitors are getting a surprise returning to their parked cars only to find they are the victim of a car jacking , or what the locals call a bird jacking. The victims are finding they lose some of their fries in an attempt to get their vehicles back. Police have commented these fowl are wild and not to get into a fight. Patience and putting more money in the meter may be the best option.

Parking, which runs along the south side of Marine Drive, is just seconds away from the beach and promenade. Shops and restaurants are located along the north side of Marine Drive as well as some side streets. Whatever cuisine tempts you can be found in White Rock Beach — from fish & chips, Indian, Japanese, Italian, Irish, and Greek to specialty coffee, tea, ice cream and gelato. WARNING: Your taste buds will be excited with all the food choices on Marine Drive.

The beachfront is constantly maintained to keep White Rock Beach a desirable tourist destination, as well as a beautiful and relaxing place to live and work. Early morning crews are often seen ensuring the promenade and Marine Drive are both in pristine condition. WARNING: With the tides changing, the scenery is always different; you cannot get the same picture on different days.

With its moderate temperatures and additional sunshine, White Rock Beach is a great year-round tourist location, boosting the local economy of White Rock, BC. It’s also a great place to live for the same reasons. The friendly people you meet on the promenade and the pier will usually give you a smile or strike up a conversation. Don’t be surprised if someone asks you to take a picture of them on White Rock Beach’s pier.

The single big WHITE ROCK, that gives the community its name White Rock Beach, is located on the beach near the pier. It is a unique attraction on its own and comes with its own interesting folklore. Nineteenth-century sailors used this rock as a beacon. The sight of a single large white rock on a beach is a rare find, and when something is rare, it is often associated with LUCK. Some people even claim to have had luck on the lottery by rubbing their tickets on the 486-tonne boulder resting on the beach. White Rock Beach is the waterfront area of the City of White Rock in the southwest corner of the lower mainland of British Columbia, bordering Washington State.
